Despite what many will think of my image here of a Great White shark.. I just want to say that after doing numerous dives with them they like us humans have different personalities. They are not mindless eating machines. Just because there is food in the water doesn’t necessarily mean it’s feeding time. I’ve been out there for days, hours and not seen a single shark. And when they are around it’s truly wonderful to watch the different personalities of the sharks that are around.
Some are very curious and inquisitive. Others are very standoffish and shy, others are playful, and some like to show everyone including the other sharks who the big guy or gal on the block is. It’s truly remarkable to spend enough time with these amazing animals and watch their different personalities come out. Some sharks like to take their time and investigate what’s around. They may have zero interest in eating but are curious as to what’s around. Others might carefully calculate their moves and only after many passes and looks will they decide to go in for a taste test or bite.
They are very smart animals who assess the situation before making any moves. And the more time i spend watching them the more I learn and the more my fascination grows. They deserve our utmost respect and if we can do anything in our lives to help protect our sharks and oceans we owe it to them. For without them.. there is no us.
